I am a regular customer of Jiffy Lube and I get my car serviced from its store no 924 at Maryland Heights, MO.I got my car servced from this service centre last on 03/21/2010 and my car was running fine till last Saturday 08/07/2010. I had not yet crossed the 3000 miles mark since my last service for another oil change.

What happened last Saturday is really terrifying. I was driving with my family on Interstate 44 West Bound at around 60 MPH and my car suddenly started making noise from the front, as if something is stuck in the wheels. Somehow, I managed to drive the car on to the shoulder and stopped it. I turned it off and checked for any visible signs of damage. I could not find anything wrong so I decided to start it again. The car won't start after that. I then called AAA and got it towed to a Mobil Service Centre near my home and the rest of the family members had to return home by a cab.

The Mobil service guy checked the car and he was shocked to see what had happened inside the car bonnet. The engine cap was missing from its place and the oil had spilled all over inside the bonnet. We found that it was impossible for the engine cap to come off on its own since it has got four rounds of threading for tightening the lid. Only thing possible was that when I got my car serviced from Jiffy Lube on 03/21, the guy who serviced the car forgot to put the lid back on after changing the oil and servicing it. The missing cap resulted in so much of oil being sprayed all over inside my bonnet and as a result the engine ran out of oil gradually in the last few months after the last service, finally causing permanent damage to the cars engine on Saturday. The Mobil Service Centre supports this theory. The car's engine is completely dead now and only thing that can be done is to replace the entire engine, which would cost nothing less that $2500 to me.

This event also put me and my family's life in danger as anything could have happened if the car would have stopped right in the middle of an Interstate.I also am being forced to rent a car to carry on with my daily life, which has added more burden on me.

I have called the Jiffy Lube store # 924 multiple times and explained the above to them. The Mobil service centre where my car is currently waiting to be repaired also called the store and explained what has happened.

The guy at the service centre first said he will talk to his manager and call me back. I waited for one whole day, they never called me back.

I called them next day, the guy on the phone said the oil should have spilled if the cap was missing in the parking lot. The oil is all over there in the car's bonnet, it just didn't spill in large enough quantity to fall down on the road. It came out gradually in smaller quantities over the months after servicing, until the engine ran out of oil completely. He couldn't answer that and hung up on me

I have now complained to Jiffy Lube's customer care number. They said they will talk to the service centre and call me back. I am now waiting to hear from them.

Monetary Loss: $3000.

Location: Chicopee, Massachusetts

Jiffy lube is a RIP OFF! They will destroy your vehicle and will NOT be responsible!

Thanks for killing my engine jiffy lube and then trying to wash your hands off the problem

I hate jiffy lube, but this is your fault. I own a shop and people like you floor me.

If you go in your glove box there is a little book. If you open that book and read it it would tell you to check your oil AT EVERY GAS FILL UP. Like I said I hate jiffy lube with a passion but they can't be held accountable for your negligence. It was a slow slow leak caused by blowby.

If you did what the owners manual stated your family wouldn't be put in "terrible danger" and you wouldn't need to rent A car. Yeah it's your fault as much as theirs.and to the *** who said if a shop does a service they should be accountable. Yeah If they *** up yes but it's hard to believe people who screw there *** up like the op and blame you. And the *** talking about grease fitting.

99 percent of cars have no zerk fittings from the factory, only replacement parts that were installed.

Stop trying to sound smart. You idiots amaze me

I have had similar experience, but with the coolant recovery cap (or as they call it, overflow cap). Although its only 6-10 dollars for mine, I need to order mine from the dealer (whom doesn't carry mine at the moment) and I have to wait almost a whole week for mine to come through the mail.

I dunno how long the lid was open for, so any kind of debris may be in my coolant overflow tank, which may cause bad damage in the future. Jiffy Lube needs some way to double check-and find the right people to fix and maintain cars.

I hope you get paid back for your inconvenience, and they don't ever do that again to anyone else. I feel your pain:(

You can't blame them fully the engin oil light would have come on and even would have been flashing before the loud noises came Into play and if you read your Manuel you would know that an oil light only comes on when engine oil pressure is not present which can cause damage to your engine

They broke my oil cap off, and then tried to pass it off as that it was already broken... They tried using vise grips to take it off, that's how they broke it.

just today a Jffylube location jacked up my car in the wrong place and crushed part of the body. They did not even offer free service...

took my car in running perfectly fine. i get it back with my oil pump broken physically which starved my motor of oil and now my motor seized...

I feel your pain!!! They scratched my car today!

Tried to woo me by giving me the service for free, so I would just pop in car and drive away all happy, but before I drove away I noticed scratches... they turned around and said the car came in that way. Then tried to buff it out and offer me more free oil changes... keep in mind if it came in that way why in the world would they offer to buff out scratches and give me free oil changes???Wouldn't fill out ticket so I could pay for service.

Wouldn't fill out incident report, told me they have no way to do that. basically covering the butts til I leave, then they can say I was never there.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I've heard this a thousand times being in the automotive field.

You're honestly better off doing the job yourself. They hire *** kids who shouldn't even touch a car let alone be allowed to use an impact wrench. They don't grease zirk fittings half the time even though that's what comes with an oil change thus causing front end damage.

You don't need any automotive experience to be a 'lube technician'. Kinda scary, huh?

Guest

You should sue them for the damages. Even if it's five months since the service does not mean they can't walk away.

Guest

Never go to Jiffy Lube. Whenever they do anything wrong they never accept the responsibility and talk rudely

Guest

Jiffy is the worst. The local service mechanics are much better.

You can't blame Jiffy Lube 5 months later. Your engine would of had issues long before that if it happened 2000 miles ago

Guest

I only have to drive 4 miles daily to work and never sensed anything wrong until I went on little further last week. Its almost five months and I had barely crossed 2000 miles, that shows how much I drive.

Guest

Shows how much to believe in there so called tall claims of 'Professionalism'. Can't even remeber to put the cap on. On the invoice they mention ,checked this and that.

Guest

Do you think over 4 monthes later it is ok to blame them???? Dont you listen for engine noise or look at your gauges???

Give it up and blame yourself!!!!!!! :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry

Guest

Do you not bother the even check the oil in your car? You must be a woman!!!!
